Testing opening for 1st XV
By Brian Seeney
The 1st XV have been given a testing start to their League campaign next season.
Midwives should be amongst the promotion challengers next season and can be expected to be tricky opposition in the week 1 game.
Seven days later the 1st XV go over to the Isle of Wight to face divisional newcomers Sandown & Shanklin in what will be one of eight local derbies in the season.
Hampshire derbies always have that bit of extra spice in them for both players and supporters of the clubs involved and could make the division tougher for Gos than it will be for some sides.
October could prove a testing month with games against two home County sides.
There's a trip to Ellingham & Ringwood October 10th and the following week a home game against another divisional newcomer in Fordingbridge.
The local rivalries always enjoyed with Andover are renewed once more at Gosport Park on December 5th and the traditional Christmas League Lunch sell-out will precede the first return fixture of the campaign against Sandown & Shanklin on December 19th.
The League season ends on April 10th at Old Mid-Whitgiftians and the final action will be the traditional trip to the Lytchett Minster Seven tournament.
Gos will actually play in London 3 South West next season rather than London 4 South West as they did last time. But they haven't been surprisingly promoted - it's due to league restructuring.
