Gos retain sixth place - but only just!
By Brian Seeney
The try that made that difference came from Pat Mulholland which took the score to 48-10 after 66 minutes.
The first Gos was scored by Gary Middleton on 30 minutes - his first game of the season in this last game of the season, as a much weakened Gos side trailed 36-5 at the break to the already crowned and promoted champions.
"It was a game of two distinct halves - in the second we played some very entertaining rugby," said Director of Rugby & Coaching Simon Ansell.
"They ran a lot of tries in from deep but on four occasions the tries were down to lucky bounces which went there way!
"They didn't play as well as they did down here (when they beat us 56-5) but we played a lot better even though we had a depleted side and were missing a lot of players.
"I'm pleased we kept out sixth spot but it goes without saying that I would have liked to have finished higher than that this season."
The match saw the return of Fred Dugan who at one point was given a talking to by the referee who asked skipper Wes Dugan to "have a word" with his dad!
